Assembly Moves to Digitize Local Government Workforce in Anambra

The Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Managing Director, Anambra State ICT Agency to collaborate with the State Local Government Service Commission to commence training of Local Government staff on ICT compliance for enhanced service delivery.

The House passed the resolution yesterday following a motion sponsored by the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Hon Ebuka Igwe and 27 others during plenary in Awka.

He noted that the state under under Governor Soludo has made digital transformation and e-governance a cardinal pillar of its administration through the State ICT Agency.

According to him, the Local Government Councils being the third tier of government and closest to the grassroots, can make their staff pivotal to effective service delivery using ICT in areas such as revenue collection, health, education, agriculture, and community development.

Hon Igwe said sustained capacity building in ICT compliance will equip Local Government staff with modern digital tools, cybersecurity awareness, e-governance platforms, data analytics, and digital record-keeping to align grassroots administration with the Soludo administration’s vision of a “Smart, Livable and Prosperous Anambra”.

He maintained that collaboration between Anambra State ICT Agency and Anambra State Local Government Service Commission is the most effective and cost-efficient mechanism to design and deliver targeted, practical, and result-oriented ICT training programmes for all categories of Local Government staff.

Supporting the motion, Hon Tony Mobike (Aguata 2), Hon Golden Iloh (Ihiala 1), Majority Leader, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon Chidi Ibemeka, (Njikoka 1), Hon Innocent Ojike (Oyi) and Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi (Anaocha 1) stressed the need to initiate training of local government staff on the use of these ICT tools for them to become ICT complaint to enable them do their job maximally.

They however regretted that local governments in the state lack functional computer system.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Chukwuma Okoye who presided over the plenary, urged members to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ next week, being Holy Week and use the opportunity to torch their constituents.

The plenary was adjourned to Thursday 9th April 2026 to give way for the Easter Break.
