Jaiz Bank MD Dr. Haruna Musa Emerges CIBN National Treasurer
The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) elected Dr Dele Alabi as its new President during a hybrid Annual General Meeting in Lagos on Saturday. Alabi, who previously served as the institute’s First Vice President, succeeds Prof. Pius Olanrewaju. The election also saw Dr Haruna Musa, the Managing Director of Jaiz Bank, emerge as the National Treasurer.
The high-profile event drew 16 bank Managing Directors, including Oliver Alawuba of UBA and Dr Adaora Umeoji of Zenith Bank. In his acceptance speech, Alabi pledged to lead the 24th administration with integrity and innovation. He described his election as a collective mandate to advance the banking profession. He also invited stakeholders to his official investiture on May 16, where he will unveil his full strategic agenda.
Outgoing President Prof. Pius Olanrewaju highlighted significant growth during his two-year tenure. He reported a rise in internally generated revenue and a membership increase of nearly 7,000 individuals. His administration also oversaw the remodelling of the CIBN headquarters and the introduction of a global proctored examination system. This digital shift allowed approximately 20,000 members to participate in institute programmes virtually.
The new leadership team includes Dr Mojisola Asieru-Sweet as 1st Vice President and Dr Peter Ashade as 2nd Vice President. Additionally, the institute elected Abosede Ogundimu, Obafemi Omolola, Mary Akpenyi, and Adesina Joda to the Governing Council. Dr Haruna Musa assured members that his role as Treasurer would focus on prudent stewardship and strengthening the institute’s financial operations.
