In the middle of September 2022, a merger was announced that would see Adobe acquire Figma for the sum of $20 billion. This news sparked a lot of attention because of how attractive the deal was but unfortunately, both parties have agreed to cancel the merger due to some regulatory policies in Europe.
In a press release, Adobe and Figma said “Although both companies continue to believe in the merits and procompetitive benefits of the combination, Adobe and Figma mutually agreed to terminate the transaction based on a joint assessment that there is no clear path to receive necessary regulatory approvals from the European Commission and the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority,”
Currently, both companies (Adobe and Figma) have signed a termination deal for the proposed merger which will push Adobe to pay a termination fee to Figma.
Now, although the companies have parted ways, the future in UI/UX is more uncertain for Adobe. Adobe is a well-known company in the design space and we can only wait to see what they will do from here.
