David Moyes has explained why Everton FC were held to a 3-3 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League on Monday night.
Everton had taken a 3-1 lead in the 73rd minute of the match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with a brace from Thierno Barry and a goal from Jake O’Brien. However, they conceded late goals to Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku, allowing Manchester City to salvage a draw.
Speaking after the game, Moyes admitted that his team failed to manage the situation properly, particularly in defence.
He said Everton let themselves down by defending Haaland’s goal poorly and failing to see out the match after going 3-1 up.
“We let ourselves down because we defended the second goal so poorly. We were hugely outplayed in the first half,” Moyes said. “The players made a great effort to get us in the game, and when we got to 3-1, we should have done enough to see it out.”
