The South West Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, Adefolaseye Adebayo, has claimed that about 10 million Nigerians registered with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) within 24 hours after former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, joined the party.
DAILY POST reports that Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC on Sunday ahead of the next general elections. The development has since sparked mixed reactions, with some critics suggesting that Obi’s chances of becoming President may be diminishing.
Reacting during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Adebayo dismissed such claims, insisting that Obi enjoys widespread support across all six geopolitical zones.
She maintained that Obi’s popularity is based more on his personality and perceived capacity than on party affiliation.
According to her, “Mr Peter Obi has a lot of followership across Nigeria. You can’t say that Obi’s chances or the chances of the South East have reduced drastically. 24 hours after Peter Obi left ADC, 10 million Nigerians registered with NDC, and that says a lot.”
