One soldier killed, another injured in Imo ambush

A soldier has been killed and another injured after troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade were ambushed by suspected terrorists in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

The incident was revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Tuesday.

According to security sources, the attack occurred around 12:53 p.m. on May 4 along the SPDC–Etekuru road, where troops had been deployed to inspect a burnt Hilux vehicle.

Upon arriving at the scene, the soldiers reportedly came under intense gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange with the attackers.

Following the ambush, one soldier was confirmed killed in action, while another sustained injuries. The assailants were said to have fled with two AK-47 rifles and also damaged a military vehicle.

Reinforcements were quickly deployed to the area, forcing the attackers to retreat.

Subsequent search operations at the scene led to the discovery of two burnt vehicles and two bodies, which were later evacuated to a hospital morgue for further investigation.
