Celtic interim head coach Martin O’Neill has said the club has not yet made a decision on the long-term future of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Iheanacho joined Celtic on a free transfer last summer after leaving LaLiga side Sevilla. The 29-year-old initially struggled with injuries, which raised questions about his future at the club.
However, his return to fitness has come at a crucial time as Celtic continue their push to defend their title.
The forward came off the bench again on Sunday to score the winning goal in Celtic’s 2–1 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road, further boosting his recent strong form.
Iheanacho has now scored seven goals this season for the Scottish Premiership side.
Speaking after the match, O’Neill said the focus remains on the striker’s fitness rather than contract decisions for now.
“That’s a conversation for another day. Right now, his fitness is the most important thing, and he has to keep proving that he’s fit on the field,” O’Neill said.
