The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Sir Charles Uchenna Okafor, has called on women to uphold godly values and remain committed to building strong families and a morally upright society.

Okafor made the call through his representatives at the 2026 August Meeting held at St. Theresa Catholic Church and St. James Anglican Church, both in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He was represented by the Coordinator of the Village Boys Movement, Oyi Chapter, Hon. Chibuike Olieh, popularly known as Santiago, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Oyi LGA, Hon. Obi Mayor.

Okafor described mothers as central to the development of families and society, noting their crucial role in raising children, instilling discipline and moral values, and preserving the family institution.

He also spoke on the economic hardship confronting Nigerians, stressing the need for leadership capable of moving the country from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production, job creation and sustainable growth.

According to him, the Peter/Kwankwaso-led OK Movement provides an alternative political direction capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and creating greater opportunities for citizens.

Okafor also commended the Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Tony Nwoye, for his support for women and commitment to grassroots development.

He specifically acknowledged Nwoye’s interventions in support of women at St. Theresa’s Parish through the Aguleri Diocese, including the provision of uniforms for members of the Catholic Women’s Organisation (CWO), as well as his support for women of St. James Anglican Church through the Bishop of the Niger.

The NDC candidate described the interventions as commendable efforts towards empowering women and strengthening communities, while also praising Nwoye’s leadership and infrastructural development initiatives across Anambra North.

Okafor further said his commitment to women extends beyond August Meetings and burial ceremonies, noting that he had consistently supported women, children and other vulnerable members of society.

He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and well-being of women and children.

Okafor, a former Commissioner for Transport in Anambra, also urged the women to retrieve and utilise their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), describing them as a vital instrument for influencing political representation and governance.

He called on them to support NDC candidates in the forthcoming general elections, including Mr. Peter Obi for president, Senator Tony Nwoye for Anambra North, himself for the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, and Hon. Emmanuel Nweke for the Oyi State Constituency.

Speaking separately, the President of the CWO, Aguleri Diocese, Lady Francisca Emeka; CWO Chairlady of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Umunya, Hon. Ibuadimma Angela; and her counterpart at St. James Anglican Church, Hon. Odilinye Nnenne, expressed appreciation to Okafor and his representatives for identifying with them during the August Meeting.

They described his gesture as an indication of his recognition of the important role women play in family and community development.
