Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, will on Thursday, July 23, 2026, hold its 33rd Inaugural Lecture, with Nigeria’s first Reverend Sister Professor of Law, Prof. Anne Amuche Obiora, delivering the lecture.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, disclosed this in a statement, describing the event as another significant milestone in COOU’s drive to promote academic excellence and intellectual discourse.

According to the statement, the lecture, titled “Constitution and Customary Arbitration in Nigeria: Peace, A Point of Convergence,” will explore the relationship between constitutional law and customary dispute resolution mechanisms in Nigeria, offering scholarly perspectives on their role in fostering peace and justice.

Madubueze noted that Prof. Obiora’s selection as the 33rd inaugural lecturer is historic, as she is the first Reverend Sister in Nigeria to attain the rank of Professor of Law. He said her distinguished career in legal scholarship, research, and legal education makes her well-suited for the honour.

He added that the inaugural lecture series remains one of the University’s flagship academic programmes, designed to promote impactful research and provide a platform for scholars to share knowledge that contributes to national development.

The PRO also said the institution, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, has continued to enhance its academic profile by encouraging cutting-edge research and intellectual engagement.

According to him, the event also reflects the University’s commitment to its 3Vs philosophy of Values, Viability and Visibility, which has continued to strengthen COOU’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s emerging centres of academic excellence.

Madubueze said the lecture is expected to attract scholars, legal practitioners, policymakers, students and members of the public, providing an avenue for robust discussions on constitutional law and customary arbitration.

He invited members of the University community and the general public to attend the event, expressing confidence that the lecture would celebrate Prof. Obiora’s remarkable achievements while further reinforcing COOU’s vision as “the Now University and the University of the Future.”
