Gary Neville backs Michael Carrick for permanent Man United job
Gary Neville has backed Michael Carrick to become the permanent manager of Manchester United, saying the former midfielder can bring much-needed stability to the club.
Neville’s comments come after Carrick guided United to a dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, a result that secured Champions League qualification.
Since taking over from Ruben Amorim in January, Carrick has impressed, winning 10 of his 14 matches in charge.
Speaking after the game, Neville said Carrick has put himself firmly in contention for the role.
“No one else is being seriously linked with the job. He’s put himself in pole position with what he’s accomplished,” he said.
He also stressed that Manchester United have lacked consistency in recent years and need a steady figure to rebuild confidence within the club.
“Man Utd need some stability. They have not had that for the last few years, but he’ll bring that in the sense that everyone trusts him,” Neville added.
