The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on April 30, 2026, carried out an operational visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he met with Governor Pastor Umo Eno ahead of the graduation ceremony of retrained police constables in Uyo.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation between the state government and the Nigeria Police Force, with a focus on advancing reforms centered on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence-driven policing.

IGP Disu reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to transforming into a modern, service-oriented institution that upholds public confidence and enhances operational effectiveness. In response, Governor Umo Eno praised the ongoing reforms within the police and assured continued support from the state government toward maintaining peace and security.

The IGP later presided over the passing-out parade of 1,068 retrained constables at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo.

Addressing the officers, he emphasized that the retraining programme was designed to improve tactical skills, discipline, and compliance with operational guidelines, including Force Order 237. He stressed that professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights are essential in policing.

He also reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy against misuse of firearms and unlawful conduct, warning that any violations would result in dismissal and legal action.

The IGP commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, for successfully organizing the retraining exercise, highlighting the strong participation and performance of female officers as a commendable example for other commands.

Additionally, he acknowledged recent security achievements in the state, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways, attributing the success to effective intelligence gathering and collaboration among security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force, he noted, remains focused on strengthening its capacity to address emerging security challenges while maintaining professionalism and public trust.
