A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, has dismissed claims of a leadership crisis within the party.
Pearse made the clarification on Saturday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, while reacting to a recent Supreme Court judgment involving internal disputes in the party.
He explained that two key matters concerning the PDP were before the apex court: the validity of the Ibadan convention and the expulsion of Sam Anyanwu and others.
According to him, while the court did not rule in the party’s favour on the Ibadan convention, it upheld the expulsion of Sam Anyanwu.
“The import of that judgment is that Anyanwu ceases to be a member of the party. With his removal, the Turaki-led faction lacks legitimate standing,” he said.
Pearse further stated that, based on the party’s constitution, the Board of Trustees (BoT) would step in to act as the National Working Committee (NWC). He added that a temporary NWC would be constituted within two days to guide the party into upcoming elections.
