A joint security team in Anambra State has rescued a 16-year-old boy allegedly abducted from Enugu State after he was abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the suspected kidnappers.
The victim, identified as Favour Ayogu, was reportedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State before he was rescued on Saturday evening during a joint patrol operation at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the teenager was dropped from a black Toyota Highlander SUV by unidentified suspects close to the checkpoint, where security operatives intercepted him before further harm could occur.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the rescue followed improved strategic joint security operations across the state.
He said the Command had intensified surveillance and intelligence-led operations to identify, trace and arrest members of the suspected criminal gang behind the alleged abduction.
The Command appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, to provide information that could help reunite the teenager with his family.
It urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or contact the Anambra State Police Command.
Commending the joint patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed security personnel to sustain intelligence-driven patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations across the state.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents and visitors that efforts would continue to ensure criminal elements have no safe haven in Anambra State.
