Troops nab suspected informant, kill two insurgents in Borno

Personnel of Operation Hadin Kai have detained a suspected informant and eliminated two insurgents during separate missions in Borno State, as part of sustained counter-terrorism activities in the North-East.

Sources disclosed that operatives from the 198 Special Forces Battalion apprehended the suspect on April 25, 2026, at about 9:40 p.m. while carrying out surveillance within their area of responsibility. The individual was reportedly spotted monitoring military positions and attempted to hide in nearby bushes before being captured.

Troops on routine patrol quickly intercepted and detained him. He was said to have no means of identification and refused to cooperate during initial questioning. He is now in custody pending further investigation to establish his intentions and any connections to armed groups in the area.

In a separate incident within the same operational zone, troops successfully thwarted an attempted incursion by insurgents near Buratai District in Biu Local Government Area.

The confrontation, which occurred late on the same day, led to the killing of two attackers. Soldiers also recovered a motorcycle and ammunition, while the remaining assailants fled the scene.

Military sources indicated that although the security environment remains dynamic, it is being closely monitored.

They added that troop morale remains strong, with ongoing operations aimed at sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the region.
