Troops from the 22 Brigade under Sector 1 of Operation Safe South-South (OPSS) have carried out a clearance operation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, dismantling suspected terrorist camps and seizing weapons.
The development was disclosed on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, known for his coverage of counter-insurgency activities in the Lake Chad region.
According to Makama, the operation began around 6:00 a.m. on April 24, as troops moved out from their base in Kamenji and advanced toward Tungan Mariga.
During the mission, soldiers reportedly uncovered and destroyed makeshift camps believed to belong to terrorists in Nuku village. Six Dane guns were also recovered in the process.
The troops later moved to Woro village, where the commanding officer addressed personnel and reviewed the progress of the operation.
Makama added that, in a bid to strengthen operational capacity, the troops were reinforced with an additional armoured personnel carrier fitted with a QJC weapon system.
He noted that the operation was completed successfully without any resistance.
