Obi–Kwankwaso Ticket Can’t Deliver Required Votes — ADC NWC Member

A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Fabiyi Oladimeji, has dismissed the viability of a joint presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oladimeji, who serves as Deputy National Financial Secretary under the David Mark-led NWC, argued that the pairing would not generate the electoral strength needed to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, he stated that a ticket involving Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would provide the ADC with stronger chances at the polls.

According to him, voting patterns from the 2023 general election suggest that combining the support bases of Atiku and Obi would yield better results than an Obi–Kwankwaso alliance.

“Even Kwankwaso and Obi cannot give us the number. The best option is Atiku and Obi,” he said.

Oladimeji added that Atiku has already indicated willingness to support any consensus candidate, while Rotimi Amaechi has expressed a similar position.

He urged Peter Obi to make a clear commitment as well, stressing that the focus should be on building a united front rather than pursuing individual ambitions.

“This is not about personal ambition; it is about rescuing the country,” he added.

The remarks highlight ongoing internal debates within the ADC and the broader opposition camp over the most strategic presidential ticket to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections.

Political alignments and negotiations among key figures are expected to intensify as the election approaches.
