Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has opened discussions with OncoClinics Africa on a proposed partnership aimed at expanding oncology services and improving access to cancer treatment in Anambra State.
The private healthcare company, which provides linear accelerator radiotherapy and comprehensive oncology services, visited the hospital on Wednesday to explore areas of collaboration that could strengthen cancer care delivery.
The proposed partnership is expected to bridge gaps in radiotherapy services and reduce the burden on patients who currently travel to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State, for treatment.
OncoClinics Africa also highlighted its telemedicine services and its programme offering free oncology treatment for children between the ages of zero and 10 years.
Receiving the delegation, the Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu, welcomed the initiative and requested a formal proposal detailing the scope and implementation modalities of the partnership.
She reaffirmed her commitment to transforming COOUTH into a centre of excellence through improved patient care, enhanced clinical training and globally recognised research capacity.
As part of the visit, the OncoClinics Africa team assessed the hospital’s manpower and existing facilities, including its Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines, to evaluate their suitability for the proposed collaboration.
