Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested two suspected interstate robbers over their alleged involvement in vehicle theft across the country.
The suspects, identified as ThankGod Unchenna and Adewole Muyedeen, were intercepted while allegedly transporting a stolen vehicle from Lagos to Abuja.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, their arrest followed intelligence-led operations supported by technology-driven surveillance.
The police said they received information on April 30 that a silver Hyundai vehicle stolen in Lagos State was being moved towards Abuja by suspected criminals. Acting on the tip-off, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were deployed and intercepted the suspects at Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area.
During the arrest, one of the suspects, ThankGod Unchenna, reportedly jumped into the Ogbese River in an attempt to escape. However, police operatives pursued him into the river and successfully arrested him.
“The operatives demonstrated professionalism and tactical efficiency in apprehending the suspect safely,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects may be linked to a wider criminal network, while further investigations are ongoing. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
