Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, says the Soludo administration is committed to transforming education in underserved communities across the state without compromising academic standards.
Ogugua made this known while receiving members of the Elite Youths of Anam Foundation from Anambra West in his office at the State Secretariat Complex, Awka.
He commended the group’s consistent advocacy for education and its efforts to encourage young people in Anambra West to embrace learning, describing their initiatives as important contributions to human capital development.
The commissioner said the state government was working to tackle educational challenges in underserved communities through targeted interventions, but stressed that lasting progress would require active support from communities, stakeholders and beneficiaries.
He urged the youths to sustain their commitment to educational development, adding that government programmes would continue to be guided by established standards to ensure quality outcomes.
“The efforts of the State Government towards making education in Anambra of good quality and accessible are aimed at securing the best future for the youths. The free education policy is already yielding results as could be seen in the enrollment figures in our public schools.
“The government is backing that up with the infrastructure upgrade in the schools and recruitment of teachers, as well as their training and retraining.
“So, the onus lies on our young people to make the most of this opportunity provided by the state government to advance their future,” the Commissioner stated.
Earlier, the leader of the Elite Youths of Anam Foundation, Dr. Ejike Anekwe, praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for appointing Ogugua as Commissioner for Education, expressing confidence that his leadership would bring greater attention to the educational needs of Anambra West.
Anekwe appealed to the state government to extend education interventions to the area, particularly in teacher recruitment, admission opportunities and the rehabilitation of dilapidated school infrastructure to improve learning conditions for students.
He argued that despite Anambra West’s significant contribution to the state’s agricultural economy, the area requires greater inclusion in development initiatives, especially those focused on improving education and preparing young people for future opportunities.
He also revealed that the foundation has visited schools across Anambra West to sensitise students on the value of education, while providing free JAMB registration and scholarships to encourage more youths to pursue higher education.
