Led by Ernest Obinna Okafor, the initiative deployed more than 30 volunteers, including students and youths, who moved through different parts of the city, engaging residents and sensitising them on the importance of proper waste disposal and maintaining clean surroundings.
The volunteers encouraged residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, keep drainage channels clear and properly manage household and commercial waste.
Speaking during the exercise, the organisers emphasised that maintaining a clean environment should not be left to the government and environmental agencies alone, but requires the active participation of individuals, communities and other stakeholders.
The campaign also focused on changing everyday attitudes towards environmental sanitation, with the volunteers stressing that simple responsible actions by residents can contribute significantly to the cleanliness and overall wellbeing of the city.
The participation of students and other young people in the exercise further highlighted the importance of youth involvement in promoting environmental sustainability across Anambra State.
The initiative said the campaign was aimed at encouraging residents to take greater ownership of their surroundings and contribute to building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Anambra.
The exercise reinforced the message that environmental responsibility begins with individuals and communities and that a cleaner Anambra requires the collective effort of its citizens.
