A Media Assistant to the First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, Dan Ezeigwe, has clarified that former Governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, is not the godfather of any of the children of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife.
Ezeigwe made the clarification in a statement following the circulation of a viral video in which Obi was reported to have said that he and his wife, Mrs. Margaret Obi, are godparents to the children of the Anambra State governor.
According to the statement, the claim, as presented in the video, is not correct and has generated several calls and enquiries seeking clarification from the office of the First Lady.
Ezeigwe explained that while there is a godparent relationship between members of the two families, the relationship is different from what was conveyed in the viral video.
He stated that Dr. Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to Peter Obi’s daughter, while Mrs. Margaret Obi is the baptismal godmother to one of Governor Soludo’s daughters.
“Neither Mr. Obi nor Professor Soludo has served as a godparent to the other’s children,” the statement said.
The media aide, however, suggested that Obi may have misspoken while making his remarks, noting that the clarification became necessary because of the widespread circulation of the video and the enquiries it generated.
He also described the relationship between the two families as cordial, stressing that there was no need to misrepresent the nature of their relationship.
Ezeigwe urged members of the public, the media and other concerned parties to take note of the clarification and disregard any impression that Peter Obi is the godfather of any of Governor Soludo’s children.
