Four suspected bandits have been neutralised during a joint security operation following an attack on a community in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while a member of the Yansakai vigilante group was killed and a Police Constabulary officer sustained gunshot injuries.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 8:00 a.m. on July 12, when a large group of armed bandits, believed to have crossed from the Gumi Forest in neighbouring Zamfara State, invaded Gadar Wanda, an outskirt of Danko Town, and rustled an unspecified number of livestock.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised police tactical teams, local vigilantes and members of the Yansakai group to pursue the fleeing bandits.

The security team caught up with the attackers and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, during which four suspected bandits were neutralised, forcing the others to retreat.

However, Tukur Ukuhu, 40, a member of the Yansakai vigilante group, was killed during the exchange of fire, while Shehu Mohammed Maikaji, a Police Constabulary officer attached to the division, sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured officer was evacuated to Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital, Zuru, for treatment, while the body of the deceased vigilante member was also taken to the hospital. After documentation and post-mortem procedures, the remains were released to his family for burial.

Security sources said efforts are ongoing to recover the rustled livestock and apprehend the fleeing bandits.
