The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to defect to its platform and contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a post shared on X on Sunday, the party stated that both politicians have roughly two weeks to make the switch and secure its presidential ticket.
“All we need right now. Just all we need. Two weeks to deadline,” the party wrote.
The post featured an image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands, accompanied by the caption, “Nigeria will be OK.”
The appeal comes amid growing political movements around a possible alliance between the two figures, following the emergence of the “OK Movement,” a support group advocating a joint presidential bid ahead of the 2027 polls.
Spokesperson for the movement, Justin Ijeh, recently announced new appointments across its national and state structures as part of efforts to strengthen its base.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party currently associated with both politicians, is grappling with internal leadership disputes that may impact its prospects in the next election cycle.
On April 22, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in a leadership tussle between factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala.
At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates.
Opposition parties, including the ADC, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have called on INEC to extend the deadline to the end of July, arguing that the current timeline could place them at a disadvantage.
