Detectives from the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles, along with a pistol.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, identified the suspects as Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi. He explained that the arrests followed reports of vehicle theft, which prompted a discreet, intelligence-driven investigation.
According to the police, the operation began with the arrest of Olarewaju, who was found with a suspicious vehicle plate number. Further investigation led to the arrest of Ayinde, believed to be the leader of a robbery syndicate operating in parts of the state.
During the operation, officers recovered a previously stolen Toyota Sienna and a locally fabricated pistol allegedly used in carrying out the crimes.
In a related development, a stolen Toyota Corolla taken in Ilaro was recovered in Ibadan from a suspect identified as Arowolo Taoreed. Police also arrested Adewusi in connection with another robbery incident, leading to the recovery of a grey 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport traced to Abuja. A pistol recovered in Ajah, Lagos State, has also been linked to the same network.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects are part of an organized criminal syndicate involved in car theft and armed robbery across Ogun and neighboring states. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the group and recover more stolen vehicles.
