Troops of the Nigerian Army, in conjunction with local hunters, have ambushed suspected terrorists reportedly collecting taxes from herders in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Sources that the terrorists were operating along the Gaba–Dzangola highway in Guyaku District, prompting troops of 226 Battalion to establish an ambush at a strategic location.
Military sources said the operation was conducted at about 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 6.
According to the source, the troops made contact with the terrorists at about 4:42 a.m. on Aug. 7, forcing them to retreat in confusion following the encounter.
Although the number of terrorist casualties could not be immediately confirmed, the troops recovered several weapons and ammunition from the fleeing group.
Items recovered included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one locally fabricated pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
There were no reported casualties among the troops.The troops subsequently returned to base after the operation.
