Troops under Operation UDO KA, working alongside other security agencies, have intensified operations across the South-East as part of the ongoing Operation Eastern Sanity, achieving notable breakthroughs in Enugu and Ebonyi states on April 28, 2026.
In Enugu State, soldiers from the 82 Division Garrison stationed at Akama responded swiftly to credible intelligence on a kidnapping attempt along the Akama–Iwollo Road in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the assailants and successfully freed four victims: Chisom Kingsley and Chuoke Chinedu from Akama, Jonathan Paul Chukwu from Akwa Ibom State, and Patience John from Taraba State. A motorcycle and a vehicle used in the operation were also recovered and subsequently handed over to the police along with the rescued individuals for further investigation.
In a separate but related development in Ebonyi State, troops of Sector 2 carried out a follow-up operation in Izzi Local Government Area based on intelligence obtained from the earlier capture of a suspected insurgent leader, Chinedu Igautu, popularly known as “Calamity,” and his associates.
The operation resulted in the arrest of another suspected member of the IPOB/ESN network, Chisom Agashi Ogadego, also known as “Baron.” Initial findings indicate his involvement in kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area. Information provided by the suspect led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, magazines, and ammunition at a location within the council area.
The Nigerian Army said the operations highlight the success of intelligence-driven strategies in disrupting criminal networks and enhancing security in the region. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts.
