The Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested a 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over her alleged involvement in child pornography in Onitsha, rescuing four children and recovering sex toys and other items believed to be connected to the case.
The arrest followed intelligence gathered from a trending video circulating online in which the suspect was allegedly seen using sex toys on a minor, police said.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday morning, said the operation was carried out on the evening of Thursday, September 10, and led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine.
He added that investigators also recovered sex toys and other incriminating items as the probe into the case continues.
According to the police, the suspect is in custody while detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.
Ikenga disclosed that the suspect’s husband is also being interrogated to establish whether he has any connection with the alleged crime.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, described the alleged abuse as unacceptable, stressing that crimes involving the exploitation of children would not be tolerated.
He directed a thorough and professional investigation while ensuring that the rescued children receive proper care and protection.
The police said the command’s priority extends beyond investigation and prosecution to safeguarding the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children, adding that it would work with relevant child protection agencies to provide counselling, rehabilitation and other support services while protecting the identities of the victims.
The command also commended local vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information helped investigators track down the suspect.
