Army moves to modernize performance tracking across units

The Nigerian Army has stepped up its drive to improve operational effectiveness and institutional performance by introducing a standardized evaluation system. This move was highlighted during a sensitization seminar organized by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

The event took place at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Asokoro, Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders to enhance understanding and application of structured performance assessment methods across various formations and units.

Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu—represented by the Military Secretary, Major General Everest Okoro—described the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening institutional capacity.

He noted that the seminar represents the department’s first major engagement since its creation, reflecting the Army’s dedication to professionalism and excellence.

He explained that the Department of Standards and Evaluation functions as the Army’s quality control unit, responsible for ensuring adherence to set standards, conducting regular combat-readiness checks, and reviewing operational activities.

These efforts are aimed at identifying strengths, addressing gaps, and promoting continuous improvement through enhanced evaluation processes.

In his welcome remarks, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (CASE), Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, emphasized that the seminar seeks to encourage the consistent use of standards to boost discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency.

He added that it would also support the full integration of standardized evaluation practices across the Army for better performance outcomes.

Overall, the seminar underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering accountability, precision, and ongoing improvement by strengthening compliance mechanisms and refining performance benchmarks in line with global best practices.
