Troops of the 159 Battalion have arrested two suspected terrorists during a stop-and-search operation in Yobe State.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle.
According to him, the suspects, identified as Dahiru Mohammed (40) and Ismail Adamu (34), both from Geidam, were arrested at about 8:00 a.m. on April 30 at a military checkpoint in Kanama, where they were stationed at the B Company location.
He explained that the duo were intercepted while returning from Damasak market, following a routine search conducted by troops.
Preliminary findings reportedly revealed suspicious images on their mobile phones, indicating possible links with terrorist groups.
Items recovered from them include two smartphones, seven hijabs, seven pairs of footwear, two towels, 107 veils, one umbrella, two praying mats, 34 turbans, a set of prayer beads, children’s clothing, and N408,500 in cash.
Makama added that the suspects and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
