A new Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama has assumed office as the 36th Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command.
He takes over the leadership of the Command following the retirement of the immediate past Commissioner of Police who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police,AIG Ikioye Orutugu, before his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
A native of Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Jos and is the former Area Commander Nnewi as well as Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command.
Upon assumption of office Monday 10th August 2026, CP Nnanna Oji Ama expressed commitment to consolidating the existing security gains in Anambra State and strengthening collaboration among the Police, other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths, women and other critical stakeholders.
The CP further assured the people of Anambra State of the Command’s renewed determination to protect lives and property, prevent and combat crime, uphold the rule of law, and ensure a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and businesses across the State.
A statement released by Police Spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga, said the new Commissioner of Police is a highly experienced and accomplished senior police officer with over three decades of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Prior to his deployment to Anambra State, he served as Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and training, at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, having previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in the same office.
But addressing newsmen shortly after assuming office in Amawbia on Monday, CP Oji Ama warned officers and men of the Command against engaging in practices capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force or undermining public trust.
He declared that his administration would adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards intimidation, extortion and other forms of misconduct by police personnel.
According to him, the Command would operate a strict zero-extortion policy, stressing that any form of extortion, if previously existing, would not be tolerated under his leadership.
CP Oji Ama assured members of the media of his readiness to partner with them to promote effective policing and enhance public safety in the state.
He pledged to reinforce community policing initiatives, strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups and other critical stakeholders, and build greater public confidence through effective partnership and sustained engagement.
The new CP assured that the Command under his leadership, would remain steadfast in protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law, strengthening strategic partnerships and ensuring that every law-abiding citizen could live and conduct legitimate business in an atmosphere of peace and security.
He urged residents of Anambra State to remain law-abiding, vigilant and security-conscious, while encouraging them to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and combating crime.
The new Commissioner also pledged to work closely with the media to enhance effective policing in the state, urging journalists to remain factual, balanced and objective in their reportage
