Ibadan Declaration: Opposition Standing on Sinking Ground — Presidency

The Presidency has dismissed the recent opposition move to adopt a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, describing it as lacking substance and direction.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television.

Reacting to the Ibadan declaration by opposition parties, Dare characterized the coalition as a gathering of “recycled politicians,” noting that many of the individuals involved have previously held positions as ministers, governors, and long-time political actors.

He argued that their past performances in both executive and legislative roles show little evidence of innovation or fresh ideas, adding that they have nothing new to offer Nigerians.

“They are free to field five or even seven presidential candidates. That is the beauty of democracy,” he said. “But they are standing on sinking ground.”

Dare maintained that the existence of opposition parties does not undermine the performance of the current administration, insisting that the government remains functional and focused on delivering measurable outcomes.

He added that the Tinubu-led administration continues to operate on what he described as a solid foundation of competence, despite criticisms from opposition groups.
