ADC candidate blames APC, Accord for Osun labour division

Osun ADC Governorship Candidate Blames APC, Accord for Labour Division

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, has condemned growing divisions within the labour movement in the state, accusing the All Progressives Congress and Accord Party of fueling disunity.

Salaam made the allegation in a statement signed by the Director-General of his Governorship Campaign Council, Segun Olanibi, a copy of which was obtained in Osogbo on Saturday.

The development followed a separate May Day celebration organised by a faction of the labour movement, the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers, held at the Olorunda Local Government Secretariat, Igbona.

At the event, the group urged political leaders to show greater commitment to workers’ welfare and also directed members to support the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the forthcoming election.

Reacting, Salaam described the emergence of parallel labour celebrations aligned with political interests as unfortunate, saying it weakens workers’ unity and collective bargaining power.

He stated:
“Workers’ Day is a moment of solidarity, not division… To see workers divided along political lines is both unfortunate and unacceptable.”

He accused both APC and Accord of exploiting labour divisions for political advantage, warning that such actions undermine workers’ ability to demand accountability and improved welfare.

Salaam, however, promised that if elected, his administration would protect labour unions from political interference and promote unity within the workforce.

He added that his government would prioritise prompt payment of salaries and pensions, improve workers’ welfare, and establish a transparent engagement system with labour organisations.
